Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, is a hill station in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its scenic beauty, pleasant climate, and a variety of activities.
Ooty is located at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,347 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest hill stations in India. The climate is cool and pleasant throughout the year, with average temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Pickup from Coimbatore Airport / Railway Station / Bus Station and proceed to Ooty. (Coimbatore to Ooty 4 Hrs | 87 Kms). On Arrival at Ooty, check-in to the Hotel. After fresh up, proceed below to Ooty Sightseeing Places: Ooty Rose Garden- The pride of Ooty lies in the Rose Garden With more than 20 thousand varieties of roses. It belongs to an elite club of 35 rose gardens around the world which has won the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia. Ooty Lake- An artificial lake, built in 1825 by John Sullivan, Ooty Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions. Its scenic beauty captivates everyone. Walking around the lake on a well laid footpath and boating are also quite popular here. Ooty Arboretum / Tree Park- Tree Park in Ooty is a beautiful place that will resonate with nature lovers. Ooty Arboretum is a quiet and serene place and is relatively untouched by the tourist circuit.This little slice of paradise is home to a variety of trees – both indigenous and exotic; in fact, over 80 trees have been planted here. Wax World Ooty- 2 kilometers away from the main city, Wax World displays wax statues of many popular Indian personalities and also replicas depicting the typical Indian way of life, especially in the villages. Stone House- Unofficially it was from the Ooty Stone House that the modernization of Ooty began. This is the first house to be constructed in Ooty. History of "modern" Ooty begins when the Collector of Coimbatore, John Sullivan, commissioned Keys and Mcmahon, to survey and explore the place. Overnight stay at Ooty Hotel .
After Breakfast, proceed to Ooty & Coonoor Sightseeing. Located around 20 km from Ooty, Coonoor is one of the largest hill stations after Ooty. In the Nilgiri Hills, at an altitude of 1,850 m above sea level, this hill station presents an alluring list of tourist attractions and adventure sports like trekking. Doddabetta Peak - It is the highest point of Nilgiris hills with a height of about 2,623 meters. It is also the second highest peak in South India. A junction of Western and Eastern Ghats, its breathtaking view of the landscape around is something not to be missed. Ooty Botanical Gardens- Get hooked with the relaxing ambience of the most popular Botanical Garden packed with a plethora of plants including orchids, ferns, shrubs, trees, bonsai plants and a 20 million year old Fossilized tree trunk. Sim's Park- Located at a height of 1780 meters, Sim’s Park is a botanical garden which was established in 1874. It has more than 1000 species of flora including Queensland Karry Pine, Rudraksha (the bead tree) and Ornamental tree making it a place worth visiting. Coonoor Tea Estate- Coonoor, known as the tea garden town, boasts of many breathtaking tea gardens. A tour to these tea plantations, walking through the lush greenery and refreshing aromas of tea is an experience worth trying. Lamb's Rock- Located on the way to Dolphin’s Nose in Ooty, Lamb’s Rock is also called Echo Rock. A popular picnic spot, it offers an admirable view of Coimbatore Plains and surrounding lush greenery. Route to this place offers trekking opportunities too. Dolphin’s Nose- Located 10 km at a distance from Coonoor, Dolphin’s Nose is a peak offering enchanting view of the Nilgiri Hills and the Catherine Falls. The peak of the hills resembles the nose of a dolphin, hence the name. Overnight stay at Ooty Hotel.
After Breakfast, proceed to visit other tourist attractions of Ooty including: Wenlock Downs- Wenlock Downs is now home to the Gymkhana Club of Ooty and also the Government Sheep Farm. This 80 acre downs also accommodate the Hindustan Photo Films Company and is also a popular spot to visit for golfers. Pine Tree Forest- The amazing Pine trees ranging from 15m to 45m are characterized with needle shaped leaves, spiral twisted branches and thin flaking barks. Towering Pine trees epitomize this deep green refuge which is also a preferred movie shooting spot, where movies like Saajan, Dil, Qyamat se Qayamat Tak and Sadma had been shot.. Toda Hamlet / School Mund- A visit to the pastoral community of Toda tribe dwelling in the Nilgiris is a humbling experience and provides you with an insight into their customs, traditions and social dynamics. The trip to Toda Hamlet helps you learn about the fine architecture of their houses. The ethnic tribal community lives in small hamlets called mund. Kamraj Sagar Dam- Also known as the Sandynallah Reservoir, it is a wonderful picnic spot with refreshing nature around. It is also frequented by a lot of bird watchers. Movies Filming Shoot Point- Situated at a distance of 14.49 Kms from Ooty or 9 miles exactly. This is a tourist spot in Ooty that was made popular owing to its green forest areas & mountains that surround this region. This place is also referred to as the 'Shooting Medu' where several South Indian Movies and Bollywood Movies have been filmed. 9th Mile is extremely calm and scenic, lending a perfect venue for picnics and hangout zones. Pykara Waterfalls- Located 20 kms away from Ooty, originating in the Mukurthi peak, Pykara River and the waterfalls create breathtaking scenic beauty. Declared a heritage site, the Pykara lake is one of the places to visit in Ooty. Pykara Lake / Boat House- A ride across the sparkling blue waters would satiate your desire to explore the endless beauty encircling the majestic Lake. You can board a speed boat that runs for ten minutes or a motor boat for 20 minutes to have a closer view of the glistening landscape encircling the lake.Overnight stay at Ooty Hotel.
Morning after Breakfast, check-out from the Ooty hotel. Depending on your departure time, if time permits, you can visit the below Ooty tourism places: Emerald Dam / Lake- Famous for a variety of fish in the lake, the birds in the locale and surrounded by tea plantations, Emerald lake is also notable for the scenic sunrise and sunset views near the lake. Emerald dam is one among the major supply of water to Kundah Hydro Electric Power Station. This is one of the favorite picnic spots for the tourist and also it is one of the major attractions for the tourist. Avalanche Lake- Located at a distance of 28 kilometers from Ooty, surrounded by lush greenery, this lake presents breathtaking scenic beauty. As the name suggests, this lake is the result of an avalanche. Trout fishing is also quite popular here. Bhavani Temple / Upper Bhavani Dam, Reservoir and Lake are out of bounds for the public and can only be traveled by Forest Department Vehicle and also require prior permission from the forest department. Once you pass the check post, there is a clearing for vehicle parking and ticket counters are available for booking the forest department bus or Jeeps (depending on your budget). These Buses / Jeeps then drive all the way to the northern fringes of Upper Bhavani lake, stopping at viewpoints, temples (Bhavani temple) etc on the way and heading back to your parking area after an eventful and scenic 2 hours journey.
